Changes to the Podcast

Long for Truth started out as a blog and eventually morphed into a Facebook page and finally a podcast. Steve and I have done over 100 episodes of The Long for Truth Show trying to stay consistent by posting at least one episode a week.

But unfortunately over the past year, because of work, family, and church schedules, consistency has been a difficult goal to reach. Those who podcast know how long it takes to produce even a thirty minute episode, let alone an hour long episode. There have been times when one thirty minute show took three hours to record.

When our schedules were more flexible that wouldn't have been much of a problem. But as of right now, Steve and I only have one day a week to research, record, edit and post an episode. And so, in order to stay more consistent, we are going to make some changes to the Long for Truth show.

Instead of choosing one topic to discuss for an entire episode, we are going to break up the show into three, maybe four ten minute long segments with intro music. This will hopefully keep the show more interesting and fun, while at the same time glorify Christ, which is our ultimate goal.

We believe that these upcoming changes will give us more flexibility and make it easier for us to be consistent. Please support us by praying that God will use the blog and the podcast to warn, edify, and strengthen those who listen.

Just as a side note, Steve has been working on a "podcast archive" page for the blog, so keep an eye out for that!

Links to Last Night's Podcast

Here is the YouTube trailer of the upcoming documentary "Such Were Some Of You." I played this at the opening of the podcast.

I started the podcast out by reading a post by a former homosexual. This man was delivered from the sin of homosexuality by God's amazing grace and mercy. He has been straight now for 34 years. In this post he gives his testimony about the guilt and shame he experienced during his previous lifestyle. You can find the post here.

Finally we went through the Sodom and Gomorrah story found in Genesis 19 and saw that God destroyed the two cities for the sin of homosexuality.

Genesis 19:1-29 The two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them and bowed himself with his face to the earth and said, "My lords, please turn aside to your servant's house and spend the night and wash your feet. Then you may rise up early and go on your way." They said, "No; we will spend the night in the town square." But he pressed them strongly; so they turned aside to him and entered his house. And he made them a feast and baked unleavened bread, and they ate. But before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both young and old, all the people to the last man, surrounded the house. And they called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us, that we may know them." Lot went out to the men at the entrance, shut the door after him, and said, "I beg you, my brothers, do not act so wickedly. Behold, I have two daughters who have not known any man. Let me bring them out to you, and do to them as you please. Only do nothing to these men, for they have come under the shelter of my roof." But they said, "Stand back!" And they said, "This fellow came to sojourn, and he has become the judge! Now we will deal worse with you than with them." Then they pressed hard against the man Lot, and drew near to break the door down. But the men reached out their hands and brought Lot into the house with them and shut the door. And they struck with blindness the men who were at the entrance of the house, both small and great, so that they wore themselves out groping for the door. Then the men said to Lot, "Have you anyone else here? Sons-in-law, sons, daughters, or anyone you have in the city, bring them out of the place. For we are about to destroy this place, because the outcry against its people has become great before the Lord, and the Lord has sent us to destroy it." So Lot went out and said to his sons-in-law, who were to marry his daughters, "Up! Get out of this place, for the Lord is about to destroy the city." But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be jesting. As morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, "Up! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be swept away in the punishment of the city." But he lingered. So the men seized him and his wife and his two daughters by the hand, the Lord being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city. And as they brought them out, one said, "Escape for your life. Do not look back or stop anywhere in the valley. Escape to the hills, lest you be swept away." And Lot said to them, "Oh, no, my lords. Behold, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have shown me great kindness in saving my life. But I cannot escape to the hills, lest the disaster overtake me and I die. Behold, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one. Let me escape there—is it not a little one?—and my life will be saved!" He said to him, "Behold, I grant you this favor also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken. Escape there quickly, for I can do nothing till you arrive there." Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar. God Destroys Sodom The sun had risen on the earth when Lot came to Zoar. Then the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the Lord out of heaven. And he overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. But Lot's wife, behind him, looked back, and she became a pillar of salt. And Abraham went early in the morning to the place where he had stood before the Lord. And he looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah and toward all the land of the valley, and he looked and, behold, the smoke of the land went up like the smoke of a furnace. So it was that, when God destroyed the cities of the valley, God remembered Abraham and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow when he overthrew the cities in which Lot had lived.

God Uses Weak Vessles
Steven Long 4/09/13

At Long for Truth we purpose to stand for the Truth of God's Word no matter the cost. And while we are well below the radar of most, we certainly do take a little flak for for some of the false teachers we unashamedly point out. At times, I have logged onto our e-mail and found a flood of messages from those who hate truth. A few have even gone so far as to write negative reviews of our podcast on iTUnes simply because they could not stand to hear that the people they were following were false teachers.

WE certainly don't claim to have it all together, and we're certainly no professional podcasters; listening to our blunders and stutters will tell you this right away.

This is why I am so grateful that God still uses weak vessels like us to touch other people and expose them to the truth. Below, is one such encouragement from our Facebook page.

Even if this is the only person that God reveals the Truth of His Word to through our podcast we are most thankful. For how could God choose to use two sinful brothers to proclaim His Truth? It is nothing more than pure grace!

New Podcast!!
Steven Long 10/03/12

You may have a noticed a new container to the right with a little blue box. Just wanted everyone to know that we are now podcasting Long for Truth! This is something that we have talked about in the past but were not quite sure if and when we would be ready.

Part of the problem was that I am here in North Carolina while Danny is in New York. But with new technology and a wonderful piece of equipment called Skype we will be able to record our podcast together and then upload them immediately.

We've done two episodes already on the topic of justification. If you haven't listened to the first one you can find it (or both episodes) here: Long for Truth Show. Also, as soon as Apple approves it, we'll be available on iTunes for download and listening.

Just a note: we are certainly not professionals. We're just a couple of guys who love truth and want others to understand it. We're also just a couple of guys sitting around talking theology. While we try to follow a format so that we're not all over the place, our main goal is to let the conversation flow naturally.

So if you're expecting a "professional" sounding show I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed. Of course, we hope to hone our program and make it better in the future, but for now we'll just go with what we know.

If you'd like to hear a particular topic of if you have an idea for the show be sure to drop us a line at the show's site, here on the blog, or on our Facebook page. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
